The University of Gothenburg is annually allocated from the Adlerbertska foundations for the distribution of scholarships to students. Postgraduate students have the opportunity to receive a travel stipend of SEK 20,000.
Please note that the rules for Adlerbert scholarships are currently under review and may change for the 2024 call.

Rules
Adlerbert scholarships for PhD students at the University of Gothenburg awards scholarships for travel abroad within the studies. You can only receive one scholarship per application round.
Travel scholarship - must contain information about the destination, time and purpose of the trip, as well as a cost specification. Travel to Gothenburg and travel that is less than 50 km from Gothenburg is not included.
Applying for a scholarship for travel can include a maximum of two different trips. The travel may not begin before the 1 of January the same year you apply and must be completed no later than 30 of June one year after the scholarship year (Scholarship year 1 July - 30 June).

The Scholarship Board at the University of Gothenburg are responsible for awarding grants.
As a research student, you can apply for a travel scholarship. The application is made in the university's application system. The application is complete when it is confirmed with BankID. If you do not have Swedish BankID you can print, sign and post the application to: Scholarshipboard at University of Gotenburg, Box 100, 405 30 Gothenburg, Sweden.
In the application system, there are instructions in each tab, you will find them in the upper right corner when you press the question mark (?).
Within each faculty, the applicants are ranked according to the completion of the doctoral degree (stated as a percentage of the degree, a licentiate degree, 120 credits are counted as 50% and a doctoral degree, 240 credits as 100%). Travel abroad is prioritized over trips within Sweden. In case of a tie in placement, the draw decides.
Decision of scholars will be made in the end of October.
Payment of the scholarship is planned to the end of November.
You must report the costs covered by the scholarship in the application system (exceptionally on a paper form that is signed and sent by mail). The report must be submitted no later than one month after the return or payment.
In the event that a travel scholarship granted cannot be used for the applied travel, it is possible to apply for reallocation for another travel relevant to the studies. A scholarship can only be reallocated once. Reallocation is done when reporting the travel, marking that the travel has changed since the application date.
If you have remaining funds from the scholarship after the travel(s) has been made, you can use it for another travel relevant for your studies. When you report your travels, please mark that the travel has changed since the application date.

As a guest student at the University of Gothenburg you have the opportunity to receive a scholarship from the Adlerbertska Hospitality Foundation. The amount of the scholarship varies, in recent years the amount has been SEK 4000-5000 per scholarship.

The Evenson foundation awards scholarships to students with a connection to the province of Värmland and studying at the University of Gothenburg.
Requirements
To be eligible to apply you must be a student at the University of Gothenburg and have a connection to the province of Värmland (for example as a place of birth, residence, place of education) and be under 30 years of age. Students from Glava parish have priority. To be approved for a scholarship you must have at least one year of study in the subject you are applying for. Also, you need to belong to any of these four categories:
A) Student who intends to serve within the Church of Sweden as a priest, deacon or church musician.
B) Student intending to become a secondary or primary school teacher of European modern languages, with the exception of English, and with preference for the German language.
C) Doctoral students in gastroenterology, with preference for studies on Crohn´s disease or
D) Doctoral students in medical kidney diseases
You can apply and be granted a scholarship three times.
Application
Your application must be registered in the application system and should be verified with BankId.
Applicants must prove a connection to Värmland through, for example, a birth certificate or a graduation certificate. Students from Glava must attach documents proving provenance in order to gain preference. Applicants must also justify their suitability and aptitude for the studies for which a scholarship is applied for. Anyone who has received an admission letter from the Church of Sweden must also attach it.
Next application period starts November 15th and ends on December 15th, 2023.

The Board of the responsible faculty has decision authority in awarding grants. Decision cannot be appealed.

What counts as a Faculty of Philosophy?
To be eligible for the donation board scholarship:
Doctoral students can apply for a study scholarship of 15 000 SEK.
You fill out an application in the university's application system. In order for your application to be complete, it should also be confirmed with BankID.
Doctoral students are ranked according to the completion of the entire doctoral degree (stated as a percentage of the degree, a licentiate degree, 120 credits are counted as 50% and a doctorate degree, 240 credits as 100%). At the same percentage, the lottery decides.
Decision is made by: The Grants Committee of the Philosophical Faculties.
There is no requirement of a report.
A maximum income limit is not applied to this scholarship.
The student is required to report changes during the study year which would affecting the right of the scholarship. Unused scholarship amounts should be refunded.

Professors and lecturers are welcome to apply for grants to finance travels or projects (for example digital conferencies, costs for publishing). Grants cannot finance overhead costs which are normally financed by the faculty.
Next application period opens January 22nd to March 1st, 2024.
Eligible to receive the grant are professors and senior lecturers with permanent dispositions.
The applicant must work at a department belonging to "Faculty of Philosophy" at the University of Göteborg i.e.
Please note:
Applicants belonging to the Faculty of Humanities such as professors, senior lectures and “teachers” with Degree of Licentiate or Doctor of Philosophy degree: temporary employment as senior lecturer, lecturer, associate senior lecturer and postdoctoral research fellow are eligible.
Applicants belonging to the Faculty of Science are advised to check with the Faculty for their special requirements.
The application is valid when submitted in the university's application system. The application must be approved by the head of department and the verified document should be signed and uploaded in the application system.
Decisions are made by the Faculties.
The activity/project should be implemented before June 1st following year. Afterwards a short report is required describing your implemented activity/project and the funds spent. The study fund covers scholarships for travel within the Nordic countries for undergraduate and postgraduate students
The purpose of the study fund is to provide students and researchers at the University of Gothenburg with opportunities to study, except in Gothenburg, other Nordic universities, at a Nordic archive, library, museum or similar institution.
The scholarship amount is a maximum of SEK 15,000 per student.
To be eligible for a grant, students at undergraduate, advanced and postgraduate level at the department of the "Faculty of Arts and Sciences" are eligible for a grant and who are active students at the "Faculty of Arts and Sciences" at the University of Gothenburg during the calendar year in which the scholarship is awarded. (Active students are those who pursue full-time or half-time studies, i.e. will take a total of 30 credits during the calendar year)
Doctoral students should also
• at the time of application is registered as a doctoral student at a department that is part of the "Faculty of Arts and Sciences" at the University of Gothenburg,
• be active students at the "Faculty of Arts and Sciences" at the University of Gothenburg in the calendar year in which the scholarship is awarded.
Doctoral students are ranked according to completed part of the full doctoral degree (stated as a percentage of degree, a licentiate degree, 120 credits counts as 50% and a doctoral degree, 240 credits as 100%. At the same percentage, lots are drawn.

Reporting feedback for Doctoral students
Granted funds must be used within one year of the decision being made by the Donation Board. A brief description of how the grant has been used must be submitted through the application system, no later than one month after the completion of the trip. Funds not used within one year must be repaid.

The University of Gothenburg is annually granted funds from the Adlerbert Research Foundation for the distribution of research and travel funding for researchers at the university (except for at the School of Business, Economics and Law, that has it’s own allocation of funds from the foundation). Deadline for this year’s call for proposals is May 25 2023.
The foundation states that everyone who is conducting research and artistic activities at University of Gothenburg, except for at the School of Business, Economics and Law which has their own funds from the foundation, is eligible for grants from the Foundation.
The funds may not be used for salary costs.
As researcher at the university (except for at the School of Business, Economics and Law) you can apply for either a Research grant or a Travel grant. The application is made in the university’s application system. The application is complete when it is confirmed with BankID, alternatively printed, signed, and submitted by e-mail to adlerbertska.forskningsstiftelsen@gu.se.

Each concerned Faculty nominates one to two experts to a group of evaluators, chaired by Pro-Vice-Chancellor, that will evaluate and rank eligible applications. The evalutaiton criteria are listed in the call text.
The Vice-Chancellor decides on a proposed distribution of funds, based on the evaluators’ recommendations, to be presented to the Foundation. The Adlerbert Research Foundation makes the final decision on the distribution.
Funds granted during 2023 should be reported to the university, via e-mail to adlerberska.forskningsstiftelsen@gu.se by December 31st 2024 at the latest. The report should shortly describe what the funds have been used for, and what results have been achieved.
Distributed funds that cannot be used for the project/travel intended should be refunded. Please contact adlerbertska.forskningsstiftelsen@gu.se.

At the moment, there is no information about scholarships and grants for researchers and employees at the School of Business, Economics and Law.
If you are a doctoral student at the Faculty of Humanities you have the opportunity to apply for a travel scholarship up to an amount of SEK 15 000. The trip can refer to participation in a conference, doctoral course, trip to summer school, field studies or equivalent, for example material collection. Scholarships can also be applied for fees for participation in digital conferences or courses.
The trip should not start before the end of the application period and must be made within one year from the decision date.

Grants from the Gustaf Adolf Bratt Foundation's lecture fund can be awarded to departments belonging to the "Faculty of Philosophy" at the University of Gothenburg. Funds are distributed to pay for lectures aimed at the general public, arranged by the University of Gothenburg.
Next application period is between 9 November 2023 and 11 March 2024.
The Donation Board invites employees at departments at the "Faculty of Philosophy" to submit applications for grants for individual lectures, lecture series or similar activities aimed at the general public.
Grants can be applied for costs for lecture arranged by the University of Gothenburg or in collaboration with another organisation. Lecturers may be employed by the University of Gothenburg or be guest lecturers. Compensation for salary to employees at the University of Gothenburg is not granted.
Grants from the foundation can not replace meals more than small snacks and coffee.

Funds for inviting guest professors is distributed to departments belonging to the "Faculty of Philosophy" at the University of Gothenburg.
An invitation to a visiting professor is of a significant importance to the development of high quality education at the University. The return of our foundations makes this possible. The visiting professor's appointment must cover one year or less, but at least one semester.
When an invitation is financially secured to cover approximately an annual salary of a professor or at least a semi-annual salary, the faculty department concerned is approached to submit its choice. This is done according to a rolling schedule as follows:
