The research board is a preparatory and advisory body for the Vice-Chancellor. Its main purpose is to handle strategic research and collaboration matters and thereby promote the development of research of a high-quality, international standard.
Another role of the research board is to stimulate internal and external collaboration and help to make visible the significance and relevance of the research done at the university.
The board strives to promote appropriate and efficient use of research infrastructure through collaboration across faculty and departmental boundaries and through national and international collaboration with other higher education institutions. The Vice-Chancellor can decide whether the board is to handle and be responsible for other matters of relevance for the university's research.
The research board is made up of representatives from the faculties who have been elected by the faculty boards.
In addition, the board has a chairperson appointed by the Vice-Chancellor. The Vice-Chancellor can also appoint other persons as members of the board. The Vice-Chancellor elects one of the members of the board as deputy chairperson.
Students are entitled to have three representatives on the board. The representatives are elected by the students.
Trade union representatives have the right to attend meetings and to speak. The mandate period for board members is three years. The mandate period for student representatives is one year.
