Innovation and utilisation

The Grants and Innovation Office (FIK) is your support in matters regarding utilisation of knowledge and research from the University of Gothenburg.
Our innovation advisors guide you as a researcher, teacher, student or administrator to show how you, or your group, can develop your knowledge and ideas into concrete solutions to societal problems, and thereby achieve impact outside of academia.

At FIK, innovation advisors work together with research advisors, finance administrators and legal counsel to give as competent and complete a support as possible, from your individual starting point.

Consider us your first stop for anything related to utilisation! Come to us as early as possible for the best chance to get relevant and effective help, from us or from anyone in our network.

What we offer

If you wish to apply for funding for collaboration activities or verification, visit the pages VFS programme or VFT programme respectively.
For a more detailed overview of what we can help you with, visit the page Our support for utilisation of your research.

How research can create value outside of academia

Here are some examples of researchers who have used our support in different ways to help develop their results and ideas for utilisation in society.

VISUALISATION OF RESEARCH

Medical PhD student Ajibola Omokanye wants to make research more accessible to everyone, and to engage the public more, through a platform that visualises and explains research.
From FIK, he got financing and support to develop and test his idea, as well as help with setting up collaborations for driving it.

SUSTAINABLE ALGAE FUEL

Biology professor Angela Wulff was curious to see if the new type of microalgae that she had discovered could be used to produce biofuel in a more sustainable way in the Nordic countries.
Through FIK, she got access to a project team and financing for developing and testing production methods together with interested companies.

NEW TRAINING METHODS

To increase her impact, sports scientist Natalie Barker-Ruchti is gathering an international research front for women´s artistic gymnastics in a joint project.
The researchers work in three different continents, and FIK used a 'research tree' to help her map how their publications relate to each other and make up the field.

DEVELOPING NEW TREATMENT

After successful results in the lab, medical professor Ulf Smith and his collaboration partner in a university in Barcelona saw potential in the vector they had developed to be used as a treatment for type 2 diabetes.
FIK helped Ulf with negotiations for agreements, patent application and continued commercial development.
