After the decision from The National Disciplinary Offences Board (Statens ansvarsnämnd, SAN) to reject the case of dismissal of the professor found guilty of research misconduct, the Vice-Chancellor has now decided to also withdraw the notice of termination of employment.
The Vice-Chancellor at the University of Gothenburg has on two occasions—2017 and 2018—found a professor guilty of research misconduct. In June 2018, labour law processes were initiated against the professor. At that time, Vice-Chancellor Eva Wiberg requested that SAN would try a dismissal of the professor. At the same time, the Vice-Chancellor gave the professor a notice of termination of employment. At 21 December 2018, SAN stated that they could find no adequate reason for dismissal, and that they would close the case.
Vice-Chancellor has after consideration now made the decision that the University of Gothenburg withdraws the notice of termination of employment. All law labour processes against the professor are thereby ended.
‘SAN made another decision that what the University of Gothenburg suggested concerning dismissal. We must accept that. This does not mean that we accept research misconduct, and it is important to remember that my decision to withdraw the notice of termination of employment does not change the decisions made in the cases of research misconduct. The decision I now made means that we are no longer proceeding with the law labour processes,’ says Eva Wiberg.
